The Piper Malibu Mirage PA-46-350P is the only plane currently in production that can claim to be a six-place cabin-class pressurized piston single. Piper Malibu Mirage is a full-capability IFR platform providing comfort and reliability in the flight levels. The Piper Malibu Mirage offers performance and comfort similar to many cabin-class twins, with significantly lower operating costs.

The Piper Malibu Mirage PA-46-350P is actually two different airplanes. The Malibu, designated the PA-46-310P, was first introduced to the public in late 1982, and rolled off the production line in 1984.

The Mirage (PA-46-350P), also called the Malibu Mirage to create some confusion, came into the world in 1989, with a new engine, greater maximum gross takeoff weight and a slightly more modern cockpit design.

The Piper Mirage has only gotten better over time. While the airframe and pressurization system is largely the same as it was in 1983, nearly every other part of the airplane, from the brakes to the interior to the engine to the avionics, has been upgraded over the years. Piper Malibu Mirage flight lessons pilot school learn to fly

Piper Malibu Mirage with much help from Garmin, has done a good job of eliminating switches in the cockpit. This makes the single pilot's job much easier, though the cockpit still has the feel of a turbine airplane in many ways, with the use of an overhead panel for lights and electrics, the starter and the pressurization controls.

Piper is now offering the Mirage at a lower price. The specially equipped airplane (no radar, no active traffic) that I flew for this story was stickered at right around $1.07 million, around $150,000 less than it would have been just a year ago.

The piston engined Malibu Mirage is the current version of Piper's pressurised Malibu high performance single engined aircraft. It is ideal for serious business or private flying - but is well within the flying capabilities of a well-trained private pilot. The Mirage has two flight deck seats and a comfortable rear cabin with club seating for four.
